FAMILY OF NATIONS; FOLLOWERS OF JESUS

WHO WE ARE

We are an evangelical Baptist church family, meeting in the heart of Mt Roskill. We're made up of people who come from all sorts of different backgrounds, ages and ethnicities. We are a church family who are keen to be a part of seeing God's Kingdom come in our own lives, and in our community, united in our love for Jesus and doing our best to follow him.

We are a part of the Baptist Union of New Zealand.

We’re committed to journeying well in our bicultural context as partners in Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and as a multicultural family of God’s people in Mt Roskill, and so we invite you to join us in doing that well.

WHAT WE BELIEVE

The church is a community of those who believe in God the Father, in God the Son Jesus Christ and in God the Holy Spirit - one God; who are repentant of their sin and who have been saved through personal faith in Jesus Christ through his atoning death and resurrection; who publicly proclaim their faith and are committed to the church's vision, aims and functions.

This is what we believe as a church...

  • The true humanity and deity of the Lord Jesus Christ.

  • The atonement made on the Cross by our Lord for the sin of the world.

  • The person of the Holy Spirit as the one who sanctifies and who sets apart, empowers and imparts spiritual gifts to the church.

  • The inspiration of the Bible and its authority in all matters of faith and practice.

  • Salvation is by grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone.

  • Membership of the church is for those who have received salvation.

OUR HISTORY

Roskill Baptist Church was planted in 1923 by a man named Enoch Wood, who saw some children playing on the street and felt called to reach them with the gospel.

The “White Swan Sunday School” he started for those kids grew into our church. The first Church building opened on Saturday 21st June 1924 and the first evening service had a congregation of 80.

Ever since then Roskill Baptist has been fuelled by a desire to join with God in his mission, as well as to grow deeper in our relationships with Him, and each other.

OUR STAFF TEAM

OUR LEADERSHIP TEAM

In addition to the staff, leaders are called by God confirmed by God's people at Mt Roskill Baptist to lead the church primarily by providing good governance.

Serving and Leading Together

At Mt Roskill Baptist we serve together and we lead together as a whānau (family). As a Baptist church we have formal membership where we make commitments to one another and so our major decisions are taken together. We do so joyfully and wholeheartedly and have enjoyed real unity in prayerful discernment around a few key decisions in the life of our church, particularly who God has called to lead and serve as our Senior Pastor and on our Leadership Team.

There are lots of opportunities to serve and get involved - everyone's gifts and skills are welcome - get in touch with the office to find out how you can get involved in serving here.

GLOBAL MISSION

We are passionate about sharing God's Word with everyone!

As a church, we financially and prayerfully partner with a bunch of awesome people who are discipling and ministering to those in their local communities around the globe.

We are so proud of those in our Roskill Baptist family who go out into the world to share the Good News of Jesus.

GIVING

At Mt Roskill Baptist we encourage giving as an act of worship, and a response of gratitude to God. The gifts we receive help us to care for those with needs, run the church, and further God’s kingdom overseas.
